The President of the Milling and Sector Machinery Manufacturers Association (DESMÜD), Zeki Demirtaşoğlu, emphasized that Latin America holds a significant position in grain production, consumption, and milling worldwide, stating that the new route for millers is Latin America.

Zeki Demirtaşoğlu, President of the Milling and Sector Machinery Manufacturers Association (DESMÜD), made an assessment regarding international activities and export efforts in the milling sector.

Reminding that DESMÜD, which brings together Turkish mill manufacturers and sector machinery manufacturers under one roof, was established in 2017, Demirtaşoğlu stated that member companies of the association export to more than 140 countries, thus waving the Turkish flag all around the world.

Demirtaşoğlu pointed out that although the Turkish milling sector is not well known in the country, it has become a very strong brand worldwide, saying, "The Turkish milling sector is the world leader in exports with sales of 1.62 billion dollars in 2018. We completed the last year with an export of 1.8 billion dollars. We aim to reach our exports to 7 billion dollars in 2023, the 100th anniversary of our Republic."

"We should evaluate Argentina's export incentives"

Emphasizing that they are looking for new markets to increase the country's and the sector's exports, Demirtaşoğlu stated that they have identified new routes as a result of their feasibility studies. Demirtaşoğlu stated that agricultural industry is a key sector in Latin America and that the region offers significant opportunities for Turkish millers.

Stating that Latin America is suitable for the production of many agricultural products due to its geography and climate, Demirtaşoğlu said:

"Latin America holds an important position in grain production, consumption, and milling worldwide, especially for wheat production. One of the most important countries in Latin America, Argentina, holds a significant place in global wheat production. Argentina, which for a while shook investors' confidence, has made significant progress since 2015 by developing reforms that encourage investment and exports. In this sense, entering the Latin American market is important for the Turkish milling sector and the country's economy. As leaders in the global milling industry, we should be present in these markets."

"Brazil needs new technologies in agriculture"

Demirtaşoğlu stated that besides Argentina, Brazil is also competitive in the global agricultural market. Stating that Brazil allocates 75 million hectares of its land to agriculture and has 8.8% arable land, Demirtaşoğlu said:

"Brazil is currently the third largest agricultural producer in the world. Brazil, which dedicates 75 million hectares of its land to agriculture and has 8.8% arable land, is currently the third largest agricultural producer in the world. The industrial agriculture, which is the main source of income for the country's economy, accounts for 30-31% of Brazil's gross domestic product (GDP). Also, Brazil's industrial agriculture sector, which is expected to meet 40% of global food demand by 2050, needs new technologies in food processing to remain one of the world's leading food suppliers. At this point, the Turkish milling sector, which is a leader in its field globally, should now turn to this geography and invest here. For the past 15 years, we have been using Industry 4.0 to establish smart factories with machines we produce entirely domestically and nationally. We should establish smart factories in Latin America and contribute more to the country's economy."
